“Why not go out on a limb? Isn’t that where the fruit is?” ~Frank Scully.
After moving to Fernie, British Columbia at the age of 24 and getting fired from his first two post-university jobs, Mike decided to venture out on the first of many limbs and opened up a mountain bike tour company called Fernie Fat-Tire Adventures with his first $10,000 loan.
One paying client was all it took to convince him he was on to something, and 15 years later that company, now called Sacred Rides, offer 25 adventures in 10 destinations worldwide and has been rated the “#1 Mountain Bike Tour Company on Earth” by National Geographic Adventure magazine.
With annual revenues over $750,000 and a growth rate of 40%, he’s happy to report that he’s been able to find a few more clients along the way.
When not running his company and travelling around the world in search of the perfect adventure, Mike runs Project Wildfire, a social business incubator he founded in 2010, plays guitar in a band, and tries to avoid changing all the dirty diapers his year-old twins keep sending his way.
